A stylized collage featuring a close-up of Donald Trump’s mouth, military helicopters, and an orange scribble resembling a signature or audio waveform. The image evokes themes of secrecy and power, referencing Trump’s presidency, during which John McEntee served as a close aide.

MAY 16, 2021 — In the final weeks of the Trump administration, John McEntee helped launch one of its boldest last-minute moves: a direct plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Africa before Inauguration Day. As head of the Presidential Personnel Office, McEntee installed key allies—including Douglas Macgregor—to push the plan through a resistant Pentagon. The result was a signed presidential memo, a near shake-up of the defense establishment, and a glimpse of what it looks like when policy finally cuts through bureaucracy.
